OPTC Distinguished with Silver Award at Energy Saving Leadership Awards from the Ministry of Economic Affairs

OPTC has long been dedicating efforts to energy and emission reduction. Through methodic planning and continuous investment, OPTC has delivered exemplary performance across the board, including energy management, renewable energy and the circular economy. Key achievements include:
1. Establishing comprehensive energy management certification systems
OPTC has been incorporating international standards and management systems, obtaining multiple energy management and carbon-related certifications, including the ISO 50001 energy management systems, ISO 46001 water efficiency management system, ISO 14067 carbon footprint of products and International Sustainability and Carbon Certification, affirming its determination and capability to implement sustainable operations.
2. Creating a robust network of renewable energy facilities
To support the government’s renewable energy policies, OPTC has installed a comprehensive network of solar power generators with expansion completed in three phases. The total installed capacity has reached 1,873 kW, which increases green electricity in OPTC’s energy mix and reduces the reliance on conventional energy sources.
3. Implementing extensive energy conservation projects
With energy-saving equipment upgrades and process optimization as the focus, the projects include incorporating the rotary pressure filter into the production process to boost production efficiency; adding the back-pressure steam turbine generators to recover waste heat for power generation; installing biogas generators to transform waste into energy. These projects have significantly boosted energy conservation performance.
4. Utilizing reclaimed water resources at scale
To implement water recycling and reuse, OPTC signed a recycled water use contract with the Taoyuan City Government, taking aggressive actions to adopt reclaimed water as a substitute for tap water and setting a paradigm for its industry peers in water resources management by drastically reducing the consumption of natural water resources.
5. Propelling sustainable transformation through green investment plans
OPTC issued Taiwan’s first sustainable exchangeable bond and directed the funds towards investment plans with green benefits, targeting 50% carbon reduction, 50% green products and 50% green raw materials by 2030 as its targets for sustainable transformation.
The Silver Award at the Energy Saving Leadership Awards from the Ministry of Economic Affairs serves as a testament to OPTC’s long-term dedication to energy and emission reduction, which will propel OPTC to further refine its performance. Looking ahead, OPTC will continue to strive towards sustainable development, supporting government policies on energy and emission reduction and delving deeper into energy-saving measures and green transformation plans.
