Reducing Raw Material Consumption with Light-weight PET Preform at PFEM

PFEM is reducing packaging by optimizing the design of PET preforms for bottles. An average carbonated beverage bottle holds 400 to 500 milliliters and weighs 22.7 grams. PFEM is able to cut down the weight to 21.0 grams, which reduces raw material consumption by 7%. Made 100% with rPET, the light-weight PET preform is advancing low-carbon transition through source reduction.
With its know-how, PFEM has reduced the weight of PET preforms and made the light-weight version its standard specification, which is promoted through collaborations with multiple brand partners. The optimized design has also lowered product carbon footprints. In addition, PFEM enables production modification and technological integration by teaming up with original equipment manufacturers, creating scalable and transferable low-carbon solutions without compromising product quality and safety. The collaboration has refined PFEM’s technical capabilities in developing rPET applications and light-weight packaging while encouraging value chain partners to take part and invest in sustainable innovation. By energizing the development of low-carbon products, a firm foundation has been set for a sustainable future in beverage packaging.
